Magpie is played by actress Marié Botha, who is a relative newcomer to film and television, in The Penguin. Botha's primary credits to this point are in short films, but she did also guest star in an episode of Apple TV+'s Dickinson alongside Hailee Steinfeld and play a leading role in the 2022 feature film Highway One.

It feels counterintuitive, but it’s quite a joy knowing that you don't have to hunt through The Batman spin-off looking for Easter eggs. Here's a great example: The Penguin episode 4 took viewers to Arkham Asylum and didn’t show us the Joker.

The Penguin has spent its first three episodes teasing Sofia’s escapades as the infamous Hangman serial killer, an adaptation of the comics canon “codename” she earned in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s Batman: Dark Victory by committing a string of calling-card murders.
