A weather event called the diablo wind is expected to whip up across Northern California and cause humidity levels to drop and raise the risk of wildfires

Southern California Edison announced it may shut off power as early as Friday morning in case of hazardous conditions.

Ahead of potentially dangerous conditions that could lead to wildfires, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. is warning of possible public safety power shutoffs affecting a small number of customers across a wide swath of Northern and Central California beginning as early as Thursday night.

PG&E in recent years has imposed planned power shutoffs in the face of dire wildfire weather. The utility company’s equipment has been blamed for sparking some of the worst fires in state history, including the 2018 Camp Fire that devastated Paradise, and PG&E Corp. has been found liable for billions of dollars worth of destruction.

The National Weather Service issued a "red flag warning" for northern California beginning Thursday night until Saturday night.

PG&E, California’s largest utility provider, has warned upwards of around 32,000 customers in northern and central parts of the Golden State that they could see their power shut off in an effort to reduce the wildfire risk from energized equipment and power lines.
