SPAN, former President Jimmy Carter gave a moment of levity on the future of The Carter Center upon his passing.

A steady stream of people stopped by the Carter Center to pay their respects to the only president from Georgia.

ATLANTA — Hundreds of mourners gathered at the Carter Presidential Center on Monday night before President Jimmy Carter’s body is taken to Washington D.C. The center will be welcoming visitors who wish to pay their respects to Carter until 7 a.m. on Tuesday. More than 20,000 people have visited the center since Saturday.

Carter’s state funeral is a six-day series of events allowing Georgians and the nation to pay their respects to the 39th U.S. president.
