New York City's annual Columbus Day Parade returns on Monday, which means street closures in Midtown Manhattan.

Schools: The city’s public schools are closed, as are most private schools. In line with the rest of the city, the Department of Education removed Columbus Day from its calendar, referring to the holiday as Italian Heritage Day/Indigenous People’s Day.

New York is celebrating Columbus Day which was renamed Italian Heritage or Indigenous Peoples' Day by the city later on Monday, October 14. Public schools will remain closed across the city because of the occasion.
