Electric vehicles from Hyundai and Kia have qualified for a $7,500 clean energy tax break. But is the popular tax credit on its way out?

Five electric vehicles from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis now qualify for the US’s $7,500 EV tax credit, Electrek reports. The new models include popular vehicles like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover SUV and Kia EV9 three-row family hauler. Now, 25 EVs and plug-in hybrids across 10 brands qualify for the credit.

The threat by President-elect Donald Trump to end tax credits for electric vehicles helped lift sales in the fourth quarter, giving US automakers a much-needed boost after a disappointing year.

Hyundai will introduce the Staria Electric, its first electric minivan, next year. In March, Hyundai unveiled its new ST1 electric business van, which is based on the Staria. However, the minivan will get its own EV model in 2025. The ST1 is Hyundai’s first commercial EV. It’s available in refrigerated van and basic chassis cab options.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has introduced the Hyundai Creta Electric, marking the company's first localized electric SUV. This new offering is designed to integrate electric mobility into the Indian market while expanding the existing Creta lineup.

The Hyundai Creta has just received a fully electric version for the Indian market. The electric SUV will be offered with two battery options – 42 kWh or 51.4 kWh. Rivals include EV-dedicated offerings like the Suzuki eVitara and the Mahindra Be 6.
