Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene of a 6-vehichle crash on northbound I-95 near Melbourne, Florida.

A deadly crash has shut down both sides of I-95 in Melbourne. The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash was reported just before 5 a.m. Tuesday Sign up for our Newsletters At least one person was killed in the crash.

Backups on the interstate were reported from the Pineda exit to Eau Gallie Boulevard and happened just as motorists were beginning their morning commutes. All lanes of the interstate were reopened by 8:22 a.m., the highway patrol said.

However, troopers said the crash has had a significant impact on traffic and there is heavy congestion between Viera Boulevard and US-192. Motorists should anticipate slow or stopping traffic in the area for the next few hours,
