Texas is in line to experience sub-freezing temperatures for the first time in nearly a year, but just before the cold may come another round of tornadoes. The National Weather Service (NWS) said Friday night that eastern parts of Harris County and much of East Texas is in line for possible severe weather along with the dipping temperatures.

Residents are taking safety into their own hands, and local leaders are working to shelter homeless individuals during the extreme weather combo.

A tornado watch is in effect north of Houston and Harris County through Sunday afternoon. The potential for strong and severe storms come along the leading edge of a powerful cold front that will bring Houston the coldest temperatures since January 2024.
