Israel is said to face a shortage of interceptor missiles and the Pentagon said Monday it would send the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery to bolster its air defenses against Iran, which launched a missile attack on the country on October 1.

President Biden said the U.S. can aid both Ukraine and Israel while maintaining America's overall international defense.

The United States will not deploy the THAAD medium-range missile interceptor system near Ukraine to shoot down Russian missiles and drones, as it does for Israel, because the Russian-Ukrainian war and the war in the Middle East are different.

The United States can shoot down Iranian missiles over Israel, but it does not want to destroy Russian missiles over Ukraine. The main reason for this is that Russia is armed with nuclear weapons, while Iran is not,

This week, the United States deployed the advanced THAAD missile defense system to protect Israel from Iranian ballistic missiles. However, Ukraine receives no similar level of assistance despite facing daily attacks from Russian drones,
