Tony Bennett, the head coach of the University of Virginia’s men’s basketball team and a former basketball player, has decided to step down and announced his retirement. Bennett’s retirement comes after 15 seasons in which he helped UVA basketball soar to greater heights.

Less than three weeks away from starting his 16th season as Virginia men's basketball coach, Tony Bennett is retiring, according to the school.

Bennett has led Virginia to a 364-136 record as head coach since taking the reins of the program in 2009. He led the Cavaliers to six regular-season ACC titles, 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and was named ACC Coach of the Year four times.
