Clint Bentley translates Denis Johnson’s novella into a meditative study of America’s Puritan work ethic, starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones.

The film is visually gorgeous, with some of the best cinematography, and while I appreciated its introspection, it’s far too drawn out and aimless.

The state of Washington has always been one of the most beautiful, if tragically underutilized, places in the world to shoot a film, but rarely has it looked quite as movingly magnificent as it does in "Train Dreams.
