State police said at 1:38 a.m., a white Volkswagen was headed north on the Dan Ryan at 83rd Street when the car hit a pedestrian walking across the lanes of traffic. The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver who hit the person remained on the scene and was cooperating in the investigation late Sunday.
