After a decade, Jammu and Kashmir held its assembly elections, with the results announced on October 8. Omar Abdullah's party emerged as the largest party, leading to the end of six years of President's Rule in the region.

Omar Abdullah was elected as the leader of the National Conference legislature party after a resounding victory of the party in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections.

President's rule was withdrawn in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, paving the way for the formation of a new government in the union territory. A gazette notification to this effect was issued by the Union Home Ministry.
