President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954 states that when a sitting or former President of the United States dies the flags are to remain at half-staff for 30 days.

The flag will be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings until January 28, 2025 in honor of the life and legacy of former President Jimmy Carter.
